Hay bale plastic wrap

Hay bale plastic wrap is probably the oldest memory most Icelanders have of nature pollution. For as long as I can remember, I've always been disturbed by seeing meters after meters of plastic wrap blowing around the fields in the countryside, flapping arround in the fences. I began to wonder if it could be put to better use after it is removed from the rolls. I wanted to find something that would be useful to those who use hay for their kettle or other animlas, so that they see the benefit of recycling the plastic that falls from them. here in iceland, the horse industry is very big. weather it is just horsback riding for a hobby, horse breeding or taiming horses.

I started to look at what people that own horses here in iceland use that is made from plastic, which could then be made from used hay bale plastic wrap. Amongst other things, I saw hoof pads. Hoof pads are used to protect the horses hoof before the horse shoe is put on the horse. Farriery, or the shoeing of horses and similar animals, is an ancient craft, believed to have been practised first in the Roman Empire. Hoof pads are widely used and are important when it comes to caring for horse welfare.

The hay bale plastic wrap was collected and baked so that it melted into lumps so that it was easier to shred into curl dust. Then the curl dust was melted and pressed into the aluminum molds of hoof pads. Hoof pads are always one size to fit large hoofs and then they are cut to fit smaller hoofs.
